With Liverpool missing out on a Champions League berth at the end of last season, the challenge to sign top stars this summer will be even greater.
And they will be doing very well indeed to sign the brilliant England international Nathaniel Clyne. He’s been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, who themselves have a paucity of quality in that area of the park. But latest reports will give Liverpool fans room for optimism. Clyne, 24, is desperate to move at Anfield where he will be Brendan Rodgers’ first choice right-back following the departure of Glen Johnson, whose contract has expired.

We love this lad – he could turn out to be the perfect modern full back. He possibly needs to add a little finesse to his game. But the raw materials are there for all to see. He’s really quick, never stops running, is solid in the tackle, loves to get forward and has a wicked delivery with that right foot.
We think that he can go on to be the best right back in the league and if Liverpool can complete the deal he will represent real coup for the club. Because while Jon Flanagan will eventually hope to make his way back into the team, he probably won’t be fit for the start of the next campaign and Clyne should be fit and firing.
