Liverpool quoted price to sign must-buy international – will struggle to do better business all summer – report

Clyne - Going, going, gone to the top bidder

Very special talent

Liverpool fans are bracing themselves for the arguable disappointment of losing the pace and guile of Raheem Sterling this summer. Although we have persistently opined that the lad would best develop in the familiar surroundings of Anfield, the feeling grows by the day that it’s a question of when, not if, he moves on.

This will make it even more difficult for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to start next season with a stronger squad than he ended this one.

And this summer’s transfer activity will be crucial for the overall CV of the Reds boss. Because, while he has made a few notable acquisitions, we think that he could have bought much better for Liverpool. At least you can say that he has been brave to invest in youngsters who were never going to be at their best in their first season at the club.

One player who Liverpool simply have to complete a deal for is Nathaniel Clyne. He’s proven over the last two seasons that he is as good as anything in The Premier League at right back.

With Glen Johnson off and Jon Flanagan still far from a full recovery the signing of Clyne would be an absolute masterstroke for Rodgers. Because Clyne could surely choose a Champions League outfit if he so desired – he most certainly has the quality to go with his almost physics-defying levels of athleticism.

So, we think they should pay the required fee ASAP. To this end, The Telegraph reports:

Southampton want £15m for Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne - Going, going, gone to the top bidder

He’s lightning fast, absolutely loves to get forward and hit beautiful, whipped crosses, but has the pace to recover if he gets caught out high up the park. He would be a wonderful addition to the Liverpool side.

Let’s see the lad in a action. Liverpool fans: does BR need to push the boat out for this one?
