Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is about to embark on a seminal summer for Manchester United in the market. There were fleeting signs of a return to dominance last season but he need more pace and power in this side if he wants to make a serious challenge next season.
We can’t understate the importance of the Depay signing. That has kickstarted the summer beautifully and we think that he will almost immediately be too good to drop. But what about the other players linked this week? How might they fit in?
Hugo Lloris
Manchester United need a heavyweight replacement for David de Gea. Some believe that Victor Valdes is the man. But we would sooner see Lloris or Begovic come through the door. Lloris, who has again been linked to Manchester United this week, still makes the odd mistake but has the sort of spectacular style that would help the fans quickly get over the departed De Gea.
Raphael Varane
The lad is pure class and could form an exciting partnership with the excellent Marco Rojo, if Manchester United decided to put the Jones/Smalling partnership not he back burner. United have reportedly had a bid turned down.
Gary Bale
It doesn’t seem to matter what he, his manager or Real Madrid say, the speculation persists that he will return to The Premier League this summer. With changes afoot at Madrid it could still happen. He’d be a phenomenal signing of course.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Vidal or Pogba might get the mouths watering more quickly but the Frenchman is perhaps exactly what the Manchester United midfield needs.
Karim Benzema
United have been linked to a move and, while the formation would probably have to change to accommodate him, he’d be an excellent addition.

Wow… I don’t even recognize the team anymore. It’s hard to know that’s a Man utd team with a quick glance. Not that I’m complaining though. I’ll take it.
