Having been one of the most talked about people in the world just a few weeks ago Memphis Depay much feel like the bubble has burst a little over the last fortnight.
Because, with a deal to Manchester United in the bag, the world sports media has left his door and gone to camp elsewhere in search of the next big scoop.
Perhaps in need of some attention, Memphis has revealed that he defied both PSV and Manchester United by playing the last two games of the season and risking injury before his big move. He is quoted as saying:
‘I really wanted to play and for our coach (Phillip Cocu) it was not a big issue,’ he told the Dutch daily De Telegraaf on Wednesday.
‘But PSV and Manchester United were not pleased. They both suggested that I sit out because of fear over injuries,’
Of course it’s all a bit of a storm in a tea cup and, if anything, it shows that Memphis has that sort of Wayne Rooney desire to constantly be on the park. The lad just wants to play football.
We think it would have been more damning for the young Holland international if had agreed to sit out games, even if there was little left to play for.
But with Holland due to play this week, Manchester United fans will be able to get another advance viewing of their uber-exciting new signing.
