Of all the transfer business that Manchester United conclude this summer the signing of David de Gea to a new long-term contract could be the best.
Manchester United’s best player for the last two season, it seems tantamount to a lack of ambition let him go. Of course, United want to keep him and his goal keeping coach is the latest to go public in an attempt to persuade the lad to stay. The Daily Mail quotes Frans Hoek as saying:
‘He is now at one of the biggest club in the world,’ said Hoek, who worked alongside Louis van Gaal at Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Holland.
‘The moment you are playing at a high level there, you’re great and if you continue to do that, then automatically you become one of the better ones in the world.
‘He showed at a very young age – he became 24 this season – that he is able to do the job in all elements of the game, in construction, but also in defence.
‘So nothing stands in his way to become one of the best like Schmeichel, like Van der Sar at United.’
While De Gea is a safe bet to become the best in the world, there are no absolute guarantees that he will succeed in the volcanic cauldron of El Bernabeu. One high profile mistake and he could buckle under the pressure.
Conversely, at Manchester United, he is settled and clearly loves his team mates. Manchester United are also on an upward trajectory – Madrid arguably aren’t – and wouldn’t it be painful for the lad to leave the club only to have to watch Manchester United in The Champions League final on the telly next May!
We think that he should stay at Manchester United. But, sadly, we don’t think that he will.
Manchester United fans: the best signing of the summer?

Leave De Gea, he should go to a confused & disorganized Real Madrid. Manchester United need to buy good players this season because I would
Like to watch a new improved MANUTD team this coming season. De Gea is xenophobic!
