It would be hugely unfair to judge Victor Valdes on the 15 minute cameo that he had for Manchester United against Arsenal. He was obviously rusty after playing so little top level football over the last year.
But there was a sharp drop in quality of keeping and distribution when David de Gea had to be replaced for Manchester United on Sunday.
And with De Gea now surely on his way to Real Madrid, It seems unlikely that Manchester United will rely solely on the talents of a 33 year old who has no Premier League experience.
If Manchester United are to lose De Gea then they would be much wiser to buy a player in their prime and one with proven Premier League experience.
We think Petr Cech is a wonderful stopper but believe that Manchester United need to invest their money more long-term and that’s why there are only two feasible options to replace De Gea.
Asmir Begovic
It looks as if Begovic may finally move form Stoke this summer and, for a reported fee of £8m, he would be an absolute bargain.
More like Cech than De Gea, Begovic has made his name as a big, solid keeper rather than one of cat–like agility. That’s not to say his reflexes aren’t up to scratch. Overall the 27 year old is safe as houses. He may not make the physics defying saves of The Spaniard, but nor will he make the sort of unforced errors which so many Manchester United keepers – Foster, Barthez, Bosnich etc. – have done over the years. If Manchester United signed Begovic, they wouldn’t look back.
Hugo Lloris
Possibly more talented than Begovic, but also more prone to the odd rush of blood to the head. If Begovic is a safe pair of hands, Lloris is more of a spectacular keeper who loves to come out of his box and deal with problems early. Another who would suit Manchester United, but the pressure of such a high profile club might lead to mistakes. But, again, we would fully expect him to establish Manchester Untied right back at the top of the pile.
Let’s see Lloris in action. Manchester United fans: Lloris, Begovic or Cech?

Petre cech will be beta cos he still has upto 7 years to keep. After all we bought van der saar at old age and he performed brilliantly for a long period.
