Arsenal have been solid enough with David Ospina between the sticks but surely the team could improve in that area.
Having Ospina battling it out with another top keeper would represent a really healthy squad.
So it will dismay many Arsenal fans to hear the agent of Petr Cech suggesting that the 32 year old has had contact with and could join Besiktas. The Daily Express reports:
…agent Viktor Kolar has admitted that Cech could reject a Premier League stay in favour of a move to Besiktas, where former Blues striker Demba Ba currently plies his trade.
He told Turkish website Fanatik: “We have been in contact with Besiktas, we are in talks. Turkey is a choice for Cech but we will decide when the league is over.”
Cech is arguably not quite the keeper he was in his pomp – he’d surely still be No.1 if he was – but he is still in the elite bracket and, what’s more, he’s got proven Premier League class.
For many it’s no-brainer and if Arsenal and Wenger were to show enough desire for the player then surely they could overcome any resistance that Chelsea might show for the lad to move to a rival.
But Wenger’s decisiveness in the market has been questioned by us before and we think he will be really missing a trick if he doesn’t make this most obvious of signings, which would immediately improve the team.
Let’s see Cech in action. Arsenal fans: should he be a priority signing?
