According to The Daily Mail Arsenal will end their long-term pursuit of a midfield general by signing William Carvalho this summer.

The Daily Mail reports:

Arsenal are set to finally land defensive midfielder William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.

It has been reported in Portugal that the club will offload Carvalho, a long term target for the Gunners, for a fee of around £20m if they can also have Costa Rican Joel Campbell who is currently on load at Villarreal.

The 23 year old, who has turned out 12 times for Portugal, has been linked to The Premier League for some time but his hefty buy out clause has put off potential suitors. But now it appears that the selling club are prepared too relent on the price and this could see Arsenal steal in.

Carvalho has been a growing influence in the Sporting Lisbon side over the last few years. He’s a wonderful one and two touch player with great passing range, a true athlete’s engine and a penchant for getting stuck in. He’s physically strong enough for The Premier League and looks as if he could add steel as well as elegance to the midfield.

FINAL WORD: Carvalho is exactly the sort of player that Arsenal need if they want to kick on next season. He may be a slight gamble as he’s never played in England but it’s a risk well worth taking.

Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: keen?
