Arsenal fans will want serious investment this summer in one or two players who can take the club to the next level.
But one existing player, who seems to be drawing varied responses in terms of his future, is Theo Walcott.
After enjoying some of the best form of his career at Arsenal, he got injured last winter and has taken over a year to get back into the fold. Now he’s fit again he wants starts and the lack of them has lead to much speculation over his future.
But, in his weekly press conference, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Arsenal are in talks with the England international in an attempt to extend his stay at the club.
“There’s no [update]. Yes we are already talking to him.
“Today I’m not in that kind of mode of thinking because I just want him to stay.
“When you go into negotiations with a player the desire is you want him to stay.
“We are always in the mode of being successful. A case of failure will only be in December next season.”
Remarkably, the 26 year old has now been at Arsenal for nearly a decade, after joining the club as a teenage sensation in 2006. He’s scored a very creditable 72 goals in 294 games for Arsenal, mainly from wide positions. He also has 5 goals in 38 games for England.
Let’s remind ourselves of the quality of the lad in action. Arsenal fans: do you want to keep him or cash in and reinforce the squad this summer?
