After the derby defeat we can all expect Manchester City to be a hotbed of speculation for the next few weeks.

Today sees speculation about the manager getting sacked before the end of the season in The Guardian:

Manchester City ready to sack Manuel Pellegrini before end of season

The suggestion is that another defeat will see Patrick Vieira take charge of first team affairs until the end of the season, when Carlo Ancelotti could take the reins.

In terms of player activity, there is talk of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure being allowed to leave this umber as the player overhaul begins in earnest.

And another link with has resurfaced is that of Wolfsburg winger Kevin de Bruyne to Manchester City.

Manchester City are prepared to offload as many as six players this summer and are looking to revitalise their squad by bringing in younger faces, including attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, 22, from Wolfsburg and Juventus’s 22-year-old midfielder Paul Pogba. (Daily Telegraph)

The Pogba rumour will run and run until someone signs him up – which seems inevitable this summer – but Manchester City may struggle to land him with so much competition for his signature.

But the De Bruyne one seems to have legs. The Belgian international, who left Chelsea a little over a year ago, has been on fire since he went to Germany. He’s powerful and quick but also an extremely hard working talent – with James Milner potentially leaving the club this work rate may be a major factor in Manchester City’s interest.

De Bruyne has 14 goals and an eye-bulging 24 assists in 38 games for Wolfsburg this season. We think that he could represent a canny investment for a club which is going to make big changes this summer.

Let’s see the lad in action.
