Even for a slow news day this one is a bit of a stretch. We say that The Metro says that Portuguese media outlet O Jogo says that Arsenal are interested in signing Benfica star Goncalo Guedes:
Guedes has been dubbed ‘the new Cristiano Ronaldo’, although he is yet to make his league debut for Benfica.
The story suggests that Arsenal will have to pay 40m squid for the lad even though he has never played for the first team at Benfica!
In a tale that seems more in keeping with Roy of Tut Rurvers than real life football, the lad has supposedly been of long-term interest to Arsenal even though he’s just 18.
Arsene Wenger is known for his prudence in the market. He has made couple of big money signings of late, but Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are accomplished superstars. Wenger loves to sign a talented youngster but something tells us he won’t be having a nibble at that price.
The lad does look a bit spesh though. But, saying that, a Youtube highlights video could make me look like the answer to Manchester United’s ageing attack.
So let’s take this one with a huge pinch of salt and have a Terry Butchers at the lad in action. Arsenal fans: any chance at all?
