Confirmed: International will leave club this summer as Manchester United links persist

The agent of Dani Alves has confirmed that the Brazil international will not be accepting the contract offer made by Barcelona as his future remains up in the air.

ITV.com quotes Dinorah Santana as saying:

This is the latest offering from Barcelona. They told us that there will not be another. We do not accept what was proposed. The negotiations are over and we do not accept this latest offer of Barcelona

At 31 years of age, Alves has won pretty much everything worth winning for club and country. He’s got 79 caps for Brazil and has played 331 times for Barcelona during the most successful period in their history. With Manchester United’s right back berth not cemented by any one player there has been persistent speculation that Alves will join the club in the summer.

And while he is still a top level player he will be 32 in May and cost Manchester United an awful to of money in wages, despite being a free agent at the end of the season.

We would much sooner see Manchester United sign a young buck like Nathaniel Clyne (24) who could become part of the next great, long term vintage, rather than a defender – albeit a very good one – who could only realistically give one really good year to the cause. And, with so many trophies already, would he have the hunger of a Clyne?

We think that this one is a no-brainer. But let’s see Alves in action. Manchester United fans: keen?
