What a difference a month can make in football. Until March Juan Mata and Ander Herrera were stuck on the sidelines, doubtless whispering to each other about their misfortune at losing their places in the side.
But, be it simply luck or the brilliant master plan of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, they are now both integral to the team and certain starters for the game against Manchester City at the weekend.
They stopped to take a selfie after training at Manchester United on Wednesday and both look in great spirits ahead of the big one.
We believe that they have helped each other enormously. Individually they are doing great things. But that partnership on the right hand side of Manchester United’s midfield has blossomed since the suspension of Angel di Maria forced Louis van Gaal into changes. And with goals aplenty between them in the last month it would take bold or stupid man to separate them at this point.
Let’s see Ander Herrera’s masterclass against Aston Villa last weekend, in which he scored two and played some simply delicious passes as Manchester United’s new string puller in chief.
