It’s getting to midweek and we are just beginning to rev up towards a brilliant weekend of action. We can expect the sound bytes to intensify in frequency as Sunday approaches and Manchester City star Vincent Kompany has fired one of the first warning shots by suggesting that Manchester United will provide the perfect antidote to his side’s recent travails in The Premier League.
Kompany told Manchester City’s official website:
“If anything, it’s a good moment to go into a derby. I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment, but it’s the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we’ve had.”
Manchester City will arrive at Old Trafford on a run of four losses in their last ten league games which has left them out of the title race and with a battle on their hands just to finish in the top four.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has also come under serious pressure and many will be surprised if he is at the helm come the start of next season.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are in their best moment since Sir Alex Ferguson retired two years ago. They are not only getting results but performing more like the Manchester United that dominated the league for so long. While a return to the top of the pile is a long way off the red half of Manchester is bouncing.
But a win for Manchester City will halt any Manchester United momentum and allow The Blues to leapfrog their bitter rivals. No pressure then.
