Must Buy

Manchester United already linked with anything other than top footballers. But, every now and again, we promote the signing of a player who could really catch the imagination at Old Trafford.

Our man of the moment is Memphis Depay. The Dutch international isn’t yet the finished article. But the profile of the lad just seems perfect for Manchester United.

Players like Bale would be wonderful signings but you can only hope that they continue to maintain their current standard. Whereas, with Depay, the sky is the limit. And there is no better feeling in football than seeing a potential worldie improve week on week for your club – think Fabregas at Arsenal and Ronadlo at United.

Depay’s manager Phillip Cocu reckons that Depay is playing his last few matches for PSV:

‘I think he is ready for the next step, and I think that he will leave.

‘We take it into account in any case.’

You would hope that Manchester United are in pole position to sign the lad given that fellow Dutchman, Louis van Gaal, worked with the lad so successfully at last year’s World Cup. Deeply will know that LvG trusts him and gave him chances to shine last year, despite still being a relative colt, on the biggest stage of all.

This is a player who will attract attention from the top teams in the world. Even £35-40m wouldn’t be a crazy price to pay because he’s a low risk signing who has magic in his boots and suits Manchester United’s spectacular traditions perfectly.

Let’s take a look at the genius in action in his recent outing vs Spain.
