Better Buy than Bale – Manchester United send scouts to see the man to bring fear to the front line

Memphis will ruin defenders

Special

Speaking to several Manchester United fans this week it appears that the signing of choice this summer would be Gareth Bale.

Few would argue that Bale would fail to improve a front line which, while showing promising signs of late, needs more pace and penetration in order to get behind defences more frequently and quickly.

But we believe that Memphis Depay could prove to be a better signing than Gareth Bale. We were surprised that LvG didn’t bring him in last summer and, after scoring 17 goals this season, he may find the competition for Depay’s signature fierce this summer.

Because Memphis was the outstanding player in Holland’s defeat of Spain this week, a match which Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to, to see the lad in action.

To suggest that any young player can fill Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots is very presumptuous indeed. But Depay is the closest thing we have seen of the new generation. He’s got great pace, is already built like a tank at just 21 and he has the power to dazzle with his fleet feet. Having hit the back of the net 17 times this season it’s clear that he is also a winger with a high propensity for scoring goals.

We would love to see Gareth Bale at Manchester United but he is going to cost a fortune and perhaps, with his whole career ahead of him, the much cheaper Depay would be an even better option.

Let’s see Depay in full flight. Manchester United fans: would Depay represent better value for money than Bale?
