PICTURE: A Strong Manchester United XI vs Preston after injury update from Louis

UNITE DCAMB INJURY

Attack

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal stated in his weekly news conference that there were injury doubts over Daley Blind, Robin van Persie and Phil Jones.

Jones looked to have turned his ankle against Burnley and probably won’t make the game at the weekend. RvP may well be rested as opposed to risked – he’s not exactly on fire right now and Preston aren’t exactly Barcelona.

Of the three, Blind looks most likely to play, having simply suffered a cut to the eye region.

With Manchester United playing so poorly at this point we could easily imagine this cup game being a carbon copy of the previous two. Against Yeovil and Cambridge Manchester United were regularly on the back foot and could easily have lost both ties.

We expect a similar aerial bombardment from the opposition here as they throw everything at a team that they know isn’t at its best.

Privately, Manchester United’s players and coach would probably settle for another replay to generate a bit more cash and attempt to play themselves into the sort of form that has largely deserted them over the last 18 months.

If Blind isn’t fit we would throw Fellaini into the anchor role of an attacking line up which should take the game to the opposition from the off and start to show the sort of form expected of the most expensively assembled team in Premier League history.

So here is our best XI, if Blind is out, for another must not lose match for Manchester United.

United fans: Let’s have your elevens.
