Arsenal will welcome news today that the player who appears to be their main January transfer target, Gabriel Paulista, was not selected for the squad for Villareal’s game against Levante this weekend.
A player who is normally a nailed on starter for the Spanish side, this will surely be seen as evidence that the selling club are keeping him wrapped in cotton wool to ensure that he doesn’t get injured prior to a big move to Arsenal.
The Daily Mail reports:
Arsenal handed boost as Gabriel Paulista is left out of Villarreal squad to face Levante
We are still a bit puzzled by why Arsene Wenger would wait until the second half of this short transfer window to try to do a deal for a player who is going to need some serious luck to get a work permit, having never represented his national team, Brazil, at the age of 24.
He does look like a really slick defender and one who could add quality and composure to the Arsenal back line, with Per Mertesacker waning badly.
But, Wenger has never been renowned for his quick movement in the market and this looks as if it could another Arsenal deal which goes right down to the wire.
Let’s see Paulista in action.
Arsenal fans: would the signing of Paulista represent a good window or are you expecting more arrivals before the end of the month?
