This guy has been floating around the Manchester United rumour mills for years.
Because, despite all the superstars that have treaded the boards at Old Trafford over the last 5 years, there haven’t been enough top-quality central midfielders.
And Luka Modric most certainly is top quality. The Express writes that United are on alert after the player’s wife has reportedly become unhappy with life in Madrid.
MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea have been handed a major transfer boost from the unlikely source of Luka Modric’s wife.
According to Francois Gallardo, described as a FIFA agent, Vanja Modric is unhappy in Madrid and could play a major role in her husband’s return to the Premier League.
Gallardo said: “Modric is the engine of Real Madrid, but the problem it is his wife who did not fit into Madrid in Spain.”
As such an important figure in the current Madrid side, it’s difficult to imagine Modric – who has 83 caps for his country at the age of 29 – being allowed to leave without an almighty fight. The partnership of he and Toni Kroos looks like a match made in heaven and certainly one of the best pairing that Real Madrid have had in recent times.
But, if Manchester United did snare him, he would improve the first team no end and raise questions over whether Kevin Strootman is still wanted at the club.
Even though the team has several top talents now, the midfield is still bypassed with worrying frequency. Against QPR the United defenders were tasked with bringing the ball forward and had precious few passing options in the midfield.
Like Paul Scholes, Modric is hub through which everything passes. He can receive the ball in the tightest of spaces, turn and get his head up for the pass. He makes the game look simple and is a wonderful athlete who never stops running. He isn’t as prolific a scorer as The Ginger Prince in his pomp but is certainly a pass master.
Let’s have a look at the man in full flow. Manchester United fans: would the signing of Modric mean an end to any potential Strootman deal?
