Starter?

In his weekly column for The Evening Standard, the straight talking Paul Scholes has spoken about the change in role that new Manchester City signing Wilfried Bony will have at the club.

Scholes says that Bony is used to being the star of the show but that he will certainly not have such status at his new club:

Bony will have to get used to bit-part role at City but he’ll enjoy the rewards

At Manchester City, Wilfried Bony will find life very different to being the main man at Swansea City. He is going to have to cope with playing one in two, or one in three, games a week when he is used to playing every match.

That may all be true but we aren’t sure that Bony is envisaging a bit part role at the club. And, we also believe that he is good enough to become a first team regular at Manchester City.

He is most definitely a target man and should be playing as the striker furthest forward in the team. But we think that, far form getting in the main man Sergio Aguero’s way, that these two could be a match made in heaven.

Aguero is Manchester City’s best finisher and one of the best players in the world. But he is much more than just a goal scorer. He may be best suited to a number 10 role where he can score as well as creating. His touch and vision are so good and he has the blistering pace to run from deep and beat defenders. These qualities could combine beautifully with the raw power and ruthless finishing ability of Bony.

It’s obviously a big leap for the lad and he may take time to settle in at Manchester City. But Bony is composure personified and we think that he is good enough to become the regular partner for Aguero at the club.
