It may well be an unwritten rule of professional football that players don’t give their preferred XIs. It could be seen as disrespectful to fellow squad members and to undermine the decisions of the manager.
But we have always been massive fans of Rooney. He not only plays brilliantly but he seems to KNOW the game. We regularly opine that he is the best defender, the best midfielder and the best striker at Manchester United.
So it would be fascinating to see how how would set up the team in these times of transition. How would he do things differently, if at all, to LvG?
Don’t worry, we are going to ask him via Twitter and let you know if he responds.
But we think that he would simplify things in the team. He’d get rid of the 3-5-2 and return to a more traditional Manchester United formation.
We think that he would most certainly revert to four at the back and two wingers. He’s always liked Antonio Valencia and Angel di Maria is a shoe-in on the other side. Manchester United are used to playing with conventional wingers and Wazza is used to feeding off them.
We think that he would give Falcao a run out up top. He clearly respects RvP but the pair have never gelled that well and he might want to see how he works with Falcao. Rooney would probably pop himself in the hole – close enough to goal to be near the top of the scoring charts but deep enough to be involved in the game when Manchester United don’t have the ball as much, against the top sides.
Carrick in the midfield alongside – and this is the most difficult choice – either Blind in a 4-2-3-1 or perhaps the surprising but exciting deployment of Juan Mata in the midfield in a 4-4-2.
De Gea (masterful), Jones (solid), Rojo (quick), Rafa (tenacious) and Shaw (adventurous) at the back.
It’s a team we like and one we think Wazza would like – an XI with passing quality, pace and penetration.
Manchester United fans: is this a better team than what LvG is currently putting out?

I don’t think LVG is using formation that will favour Manchester United instead he’s more interested in formation that will fit-in some particular players…

Both Mata and Falcao should be included in every game. To leave them out means Utd not having the benefit of 2 of the worlds best players.
