Mass Spanish Exodus from Manchester United?

Mata - The Enigma

Rubbish

Manchester United have more Spanish players in their squad than at any time in their history.

But a decline in the standing of the national side has coincided with a drop in standards at Manchester United. And we wonder whether the stay of the Spaniards will, ultimately, turn out to be short-lived.

David de Gea is undoubtedly wanted at Manchester United. He’s a genius. But it’s inevitable that he will eventually play for Barca or Real.

Juan Mata, like many Spaniards, is technically excellent. But he doesn’t have the dynamism to suit this Manchester United side. He’s a dubious luxury rather than a necessity. When you need him most he goes missing and, with reports that Manchester United will try to sign Pogba and Muller, Mata is the obvious player to make way.

Ander Herrera seems to be popular figure among readers of soccersweep. He means well but he makes as many mistakes as key passes and he can’t get in the team, despite a listless midfield which lacks creativity.

£30m paid and the guy is sitting on the bench. Unless he improves massively we could easily see him returning to his old club at the end of the season. Dare we say, even Marouane Fellaini had a greater impact off the bench than Herrera on Sunday.

It’s easy to scapegoat individuals when things aren’t going right. But Mata and Herrera have been highly expensive passengers for Manchester United this season and it’s now a case of shape up or ship out.

Manchester United fans: are you happy with the contributions of this £67m duo?
