Well, officialy, he is THE best player in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned World No.1 this week and he has wasted little time in setting tongues wagging yet again about a return to Manchester United. He said,
“I think about Manchester United,” Ronaldo said. “The beginning of my career was there, that’s where I started.
…in a comment which may leave Sporting Lisbon fans’ noses out of joint. We know what he meant though. Manchester United is where he made his name.
“I know the fans are there supporting me.”
The bewitching forward also talked about his friendship with former mentor Sir Alex
“I haven’t had a message from Sir Alex yet but I speak with him often,”
“He told me to keep improving all the time. He said: ‘Cristiano, you’re the best, don’t worry about the rest’.
“He’s fantastic, I miss him.”
Many Manchester United fans believe that the problems with the current team don’t lie in attack.
But, let’s face it, you don’t need to be a great manager or team when you have Cristiano in it. Think ‘Teenwolf’. Manchester United were of course stronger at the back when CR7 was at the club. But that team too had arguable deficiencies – heavily masked by the goal a game Ronaldo.
It’s not likely that he will come back any tiem soon, with Real Madrid still looking dominant despite a couple of bad results of late. He may be up for it in a couple of years but would still command ridiculous money at 32 or 33. So it might not be such an attractive deal for Manchester United by then.
Perhaps, at that stage, MLS would be more happy to pay his astronomical wages in order to get a couple of years of him at close quarters.
Whatever happens, his affection for Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson is heart-warming.
Let’s see some Ronnie magic.
