Manchester United fans have been feeding off the scraps of hope for a couple of years that their legendary ex-number 7 Cristiano Ronaldo will one day return to the club.
There is a sense that Ronaldo considered a move back to Manchester United when he was negotiating his last contract with Real Madrid. This could, of course, have simply been a way to strengthen his bargaining position at a club he clearly loves. But we feel that Ronaldo wouldn’t be so disrespectful to Manchester United – a club where he grew up and which he clearly has an emotional connection with.
But his agent, Jorge Mendes, says that the superstar may well move before the end of his career. But, while failing to rule out a move back to England, Mendes suggests that a spell in MLS could be on the cards:
“This is the best of all time. No one will be like him,”
“Maybe he will go to the USA [after finishing at Madrid]. God will decide.
“In all cases, he will not go to Paris.”
Ronaldo spent 6 glorious years at Manchester United in what was the most dominant period in the club’s history. The fans could never have imagined quite how good he would become when he was falling all over the place in his first couple of season at United.
But how they would love him to one day return to the club where he made his name. Even if he came back in a couple of years time, age would probably not be a big factor as Ronaldo must be one of the fittest players on the planet.
Let’s remind ourselves of his wonderful Manchester United adventure.
