Big One

As the hangovers soar we can at least content ourselves with a bit of comfort football on New Year’s Day. And Manchester United fans will hope that the players were in bed early as they begin their assault on trophies in 2015.

The result at Tottenham was really disappointing after such a sublime first half. The second 45 belonged to the home side and Manchester United may rue their missed chances in this one as the season progresses.

But a win against Stoke and Manchester United will at least have two victories to cherish from the Christmas period. They simply have to win if they want to apply any kind of pressure to the top two.

It seems that the injury crisis is passing and Januzaj, Di Maria and Herrera could all be in contention for this one and will undergo late fitness tests. With fatigue a factor Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal may rotate a few names. But we think that’s more likely to happen in the Fa Cup at the weekend. For now he needs points and will probably go with his best XI.

We would love to see Angel Di Maria start. He may well be used from the bench but his penetration and pace have been missed and he’s certainly among the best XI for United.

Falcao and RvP should continue up top as the side begins to look settled.

Here is our side for the game. Manchester United fans: discuss
