Arsenal have had another roller coaster calendar year. Here’s our take on the top 5 performers:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
When Theo Walcott got injured he was just beginning to reach the point of maturity as a footballer that we had all hoped he would as a young and speedy, but sometimes aimless, winger. So his loss was a big one. But The Ox has stepped put to the plate and filled the vacuum with his best year for Arsenal. He’s a wonderful player, with even more to his game than Theo, and he needs game time now. Hopefully. Walcott’s return won’t hamper his progress.
Alexis Sanchez
What can you say about him? Buy of the season in The Prem? In Europe? The World? All of these theories could be argued well because Sanchez has been a revelation. He scores goals, beats men, wows the crowd and works his socks off. What more could you want?
Calum Chambers
Surprise inclusion? We think not. Chambers may have had his pants pulled down when played out of position in a couple of games. But what a breath of fresh air for Arsenal. He’s come in and demonstrated that he can become a stalwart for this club. One of the best young players in the league.
Aaron Ramsey
Had his fair share of injuries and has been played in a few positions this season. But his goalscoring exploits last season, and overall play this, merit inclusion. Must not rest on his laurels because Ramsey could be to Arsenal what Lampard was to Chelsea.
Laurent Koscielny
He has been out for most of this season but he not only made Arsenal watertight last season but even made Per Mertesacker look good. Remarkable.

Definitely NOT Ramsey, whose form this season has been poor and who was injured most of Spring 2014. His best spell was latter half of 2013. I would place Szczesny in top five of 2014 rather than Ramsey.
