Brilliant player

In some parallel universe somewhere out there Arsenal probably have a top anchor man and are literally cleaning up – winning everything – a better version of Barcelona 2009-2012.

And back on planet earth, if Arsenal did have that sort of player to add to all of the extravagant attacking riches in the squad, you would have to imagine they would be close to winning things on a reg.

A report in The Telegraph implies that Arsenal may be about to snare a beauty. Because despite Morgan Schneiderlin being heavily linked with Tottenham – not least because his old manager now coaches Spurs – the player is said to be keen on a move to The Emirates instead.

It’s a move that makes sense for both parties. If the player surveys Spurs and Arsenal he will see a side that is generally some way off winning things and a side that could be winning things if only it had a player precisely like him in it.

We can definitely see this one happening if Arsene Wenger finally submits to the idea that defensive players can cost huge amounts of money too – they are very much as important as the attackers that Wenger so loves to stockpile.

At 25 Schneiderlin is in his prime. He’s had a great year with club and country and, in a good portent of his professionalism, his performance haven’t suffered despite intense speculation about his club future. He’d be a wonderful player for Arsenal. More metronomic than explosive but exactly what the team needs.

Let’s see some of the lad’s better moments. Arsenal fans: a top signing?
