We believe that the true test of a player is not how they get on when things are going well, but how they deal with adversity.

Joe Hart has certainly not been without his critics and 18 months ago he went through a particularly difficult time with club and country.

But the Manchester City star simply got his head down and focused on returning to the consistent form of his earlier career.

He did it brilliantly and now he’s back to his monstrous best. Hart is not only a top player but a leader, as he illustrated so well in his performance against Roma in the week.

Manchester City need true characters like this to complement the foreign flair that their seemingly bottomless pockets have helped bring to the club.

And the great news for Manchester City fans is that he looks close to signing a new deal with the club.

The Daily Mail reports:

‘As far as I am aware it is pretty much sorted,’ said England’s No 1. ‘I leave it to the legal side to sort but I am very happy at this club and hopefully in the near future I will be signing that contract. How could I not be happy to stay? I love this place and I love everything about Manchester City.

At 27 Hart still has his best years ahead of him. He’s played 48 times for England and turned out 273 times for City since his debut in 2006. We think that he can play for the club for another 7 years at the top level. He’s a great athlete and a credit to the team.

Manchester City fans: the right man to have between the sticks?
