The Louis van Gaal revolution is in full swing at Manchester United. And one of the most difficult parts of his job is to identify and, even harder, procure the some of the best players in the world game – no easy task.

But when you already have a worldie in your ranks, then extending his contract should be the easy part.

Friday’s Sun reports that Manchester United will offer their sensational keeper David de Gea a new contract which will make him the best paid keep in the world.

MAN UNITED want to make David De Gea the richest goalkeeper in history to keep him out of the clutches of Real Madrid. The Spanish stopper, 24, will be offered a £36.4million five-year deal

We have said since he joined the club that, sooner or later, he will be courted by Real Madrid and Barcelona. For years these two Spanish giants haven’t had to worry about keepers as Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas have put in almost immaculate, decade-long, stretches at their clubs.

It’s a model that Real Madrid and Barcelona will surely want to repeat. And at just 24 the Manchester United star fits the bill perfectly.

One day he will surely play for one of the Spanish giants. But he does seem happy at Manchester United with so many Spanish speakers now around him. And we think think that he will extend his contract before ducking out in a couple of years time. By then he will have given great service to the club.

Of course Manchester United would ideally keep him for his entire career – this guy is exceptional – but they may have to relent and let him return to his homeland if he so desires and the money is right.

But, by extending his contract beyond 2016, Manchester United will be putting themselves in a position of power in any further negotiations.
