In the time that we have been complaining about Arsenal’s midfield we have suggested many players who we feel could transform the team into a European powerhouse.

Arsenal aren’t far away and will finish top four again this season. But if they had a midfield general from the top drawer they could really kick on.

We have cited players like Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Khedira and McCarthy as footballers who could do a great job in the holding role in front of the defence – to bring discipline and composure to an attacking beast.

But, perhaps the best suited player for the role has been somewhat overlooked by our good selves. And his current boss, Alan Pardew, reckons that big clubs will naturally be interested in Moussa Sissoko:

“We have not had contact from anybody else or heard from anybody else. He is playing for a club where big clubs have come before and taken players away.

“I understand that so therefore I guess he is a player they will be looking at. That’s all I can say because he has been terrific for us.

At just 25 years of age, this guy fits the bill perfectly for Wenger. He’s French, tall and elegant, and mixes the tough stuff with fantastic technique.

He’s a late bloomer who has played 27 times for France. We expect him to become a more permanent fixture in the national side if his current form continues.

The Sunday Times recently reported that Arsenal are planning a £15m raid for the lad and we think that it’s a match made in heaven. Due to his playing style and nationality there will be obvious comparisons with Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira. He even shares the odd disciplinary problem with the old master!

But, while such references could weigh heavy around Sissoko’s neck, we genuinely believe that this is a player who could finally fill the boots of the maestro.

Let’s take a look at Sissoko in action. Arsenal fans: is this the perfect solution?
