Arsenal transfers: Surely, surely not Arsene

No way

Arsenal may be preparing a sensational move for Tottenham centre back Vlad Chiriches. The last player to leave Spurs to move to their North London rivals was Sol Campbell in 2001, though several players have since made the move the other way.

According to The Express, The Gunners may be looking to bring the defender to The Emirates on loan for the rest of the season to ease their defensive problems. With Mathieu Debuchy still out and Kieran Gibbs, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all suffering from problems this season, Arsenal have had a crisis, with defenders having to be played out of position for much of the campaign.

Tottenham are reportedly looking to offload the player in January to gather further experience due to his limited playing time so far this season, with manager Mauricio Pochettino favouring other options at centre back.

Chiriches joined Tottenham in 2013 and has since gone on to make a total of 27 appearances for the side.

He had previously had spells at International and Steaua Bucuresti as well as at Romanian club CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu, overall the 25-year-old has played over 170 times at senior level throughout his career.

Arsenal would, however, face competition to land the defender with Italian clubs Roma, Inter Milan and Napoli all vying for his signature. German side Schalke are also showing an interest. The fact that Arsenal are located in London means that the player wouldn’t have to up sticks to make the move.

That said, we feel that this one is definitely in the category marked ‘unlikely.’

Let’s see the lad in action. Arsenal fans: good enough?
