Big money

‘They’ say that every cloud has a silver lining and that could be true of Arsenal’s injury crisis. With Mikel Arteta joining the list of midfield casualties for the foreseeable future, The Telegraph states that Arsene Wenger is lining up 3 super players to bolster his squad.

Wenger targets PSG’s Yohan Cabaye, Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak and Everton’s James McCarthy to cover midfield gap left by Mikael Arteta blow

Of course The Telegraph is trying to sell papers like everyone else in the industry. But they are loathe print without proof and they obviously have some kind of inside track on this one. Let’s look at the contenders:

James McCarthy

Yes Please. Sign him up ASAP Arsene. This guy has been a revelation at Everton and is exactly what Arsenal need – a strong, no-nonsense and highly mobile midfield man with great discipline and a penchant for firefighting in front of the defence.

He won’t come cheap but his passing ability will also pique Wenger’s interest.

Yohan Cabaye

Buying Cabaye would surely be tantamount to admitting that he made a huge mistake with Fabregas. But, somehow, we think it’s unlikely that the Frenchman will own up to this absolute howler.

With Ozil out Cabaye would be a decent option who can unlock defences and keep things ticking neatly in the midfield. But he’s not a patch on Cesc.

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Regularly linked with Arsenal over the last few months Krychowiak is another with great athleticism and discipline. At 24 he could turn out to be the pick of the bunch. That said, we think that McCarthy would be the best bet of the trio due to his style and Premier League experience.

Let’s take a look at McCarthy in action. Arsenal fans: perfect solution?
