Every day since he started there has been a feeling amongst the Manchester United faithful that progress is once more being made.
And Louis van Gaal reminds us of his calibre pretty much every day. After a big win most coaches – normal ones – would take the time to bask in the positivity created by a result.
But the new Manchester United manager has proven time and again that he’s not a normal coach. After a crucial and confidence boosting victory against direct rivals on their own patch Louis van Gaal had little time to get caught up in the euphoria of the moment.
Speaking about his defence he said:
“I think the players have done fantastic. Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw, how old are they? So when you play against a team like Arsenal, a team that are always changing position, you have to have communication. I think that is pretty good…
before adding
…but I was not pleased with the overall performance.”
It takes a rare kind to be such a perfectionist. Our minds are of course drawn to Sir Fergie and the occasion when he went on a massive rant about a terrible performance while his players ran around behind him in a joyous state having won the Cup for Aberdeen!
Unless these sorts of standards are maintained then Manchester United will almost certainly continue to slip down the pecking order. But with Louis at the helm, you sense that he won’t rest until Manchester United are dominating again.
