You might expect that Manchester United will concentrate on signing defenders when the window reopens. But coach Louis van Gaal has defended his back line on several occasions and suggested that only injuries are preventing the defence from showing real consistency.
Two players who have been strongly linked with Manchester United of late are the sensational Dutch lads Kevin Strootman and Memphis Depay.
Strootman’s qualities are obvious. He’s a precise and powerful box to box player with a leader’s instinct. When fully fit he regularly runs games in a way that Steven Gerrard or Roy Keane might in their pomp. Strootman provides a stern shiled for the defence, his passing is crisp and classy and he likes to get into the box late to use his great shooting abilities. He would be a great addition to a midfield still lacking a real powerhouse.
As for Depay, we feel that it’s just a matter of time before Manchester United add a pacey right winger to the side to add balance to the team. Adnan Januzaj is playing there at the moment but perhaps doesn’t have the pace to play wide long term. And Antonio Valencia’s attacking powers are waning.
Depay would be our preferred choice and we think he’s tailor made for Manchester United. He’s lightnignn quick, powerful, explosive and mercurial. At 20 years of age Manchester United fans could sit back and watch this guy improve in fornt of their eyes on a weekly basis, a la Ronaldo – what a treat that would be.
Many think that Manchester United will go for defenders in January but it may not be long before these two brilliant Dutchmen are welcomed into the side. Here’s how United might look with their signings.
