Arsenal have to sell 6 big players

Hummels can take Manchester United's defence to a different level

Cut em loose

Arsenal need a bit of a spring clean in January. Over the last several years, with one or two exceptions, there has been a drop in the standard of signings. Not so you would notice straight away. But it all adds up to an Arsenal side which is no longer able to beat their biggest rivals.

We believe that the rot needs to be stopped. Get rid of a few players who are treading water at the club and clear the decks for some exciting new talent. Here are the players that we think Arsenal should sell.

Podolski – Has a decent scoring record through his career but hasn’t been a hit at Arsenal and Wenger clearly doesn’t rate him as a first eleven player. Be fair on the lad and let him go. He needs to be playing at his age.

Mertesacker – It may seem crazy to suggest getting rid of a solid performer for the club. But his lack of pace and mobility is becoming a problem for Arsenal and at 30 he’s not going to get any more mobile. His part in Hull’s second goal last weekend was embarrassing. Get rid and bring Mats Hummels in.

Arteta – He’s had a great Premier League career but he too is losing his mobility. Wenger may be seduced by how good Arteta is on the ball but, without it, he’s just not quick enough.

Flamini – Flamini is a hard working lad but can he still provide the requisite level of defensive cover and creativity for a top side?

Rosicky – 34. Must be his last season.

Diaby – One of our favoured Arsenal players when he gets on the park. But perhaps now is the time to stop hoping that he will recover and go out and get a top anchor man. Arsenal are crying out for one.

Arsenal fans: agreed?

Jack lacks the composure need in the final third bt if he can let go of the pride of an Amf when he is a cmf he should lean not to always trespass at the final third. God be with u all.

I think ozil should also be included and rosicky should still be wearing the red shirt. A player that can not play morethan one position perfectly is not fit to play here.

You’re talking shit about Monreal he’s a solid back up defender and he was Arsenals man of the match on Saturday. I agree with the list of players apart from Mertesacker, I think he is good enough for one more season after this if Wenger buys the right type of defensive midfielder to support the centre backs. John Terry has very little pace but he gets away with defending his zone of the pitch due to Chelsea having the appropriate type of defensive midfielder infront of him. Wenger is to blame for leaving Mertesacker exposed with his insistance on playing a ridiculously high line, with very little cover from the defensive midfield area.

So the writer’s solution to our lack of depth is to sell 6 first team squad members? Football Manager, much?

Agree with most Monreal is inconsistent Mertasaker has been exposed due to lack of protection from midfield so I’d keep as a squad player if we buy quality def’s..Ozil should be added not happening & by all accounts wants to go, so let him…I’d agree with all those bar the big man assuming he’s happy not being a defo 1st choice…personally would add cazorla to that list inconsistent & too lightweight imo…
