There has been rather a lot of speculation of late about Manchester United signing a right-back.
It’s not unfeasible that Louis could pull off a real shock transfer but we think that the idea of a 32 year old Dani Alves rocking up at Manchester United next season is highly unlikely.
Manchester United have bought players coming into, or in, their prime under LvG and Alves does not fit into that category.
Besides, Manchester United have a blossoming right back who could well become the preferred choice for Brazil in the next few years – so they aren’t exactly desperate.
We suppose that the concern is a lack of specialist cover in that area so it’s surely more likely that they will once more invest in a player with youth on his side. How about Matteo Darmian? The Express reports:
Manchester United are considering a move for Torino full-back Matteo Darmian in January.
Louis Van Gaal isn’t willing to wait until the end of the season to land Dani Alves from Barcelona and is considering a £15m bid for the versatile Italian instead.
He’s played 101 league games for Torino and has 8 full international caps for Italy. He’s quick, tenacious and industrious – not dissimilar to young Rafa.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: do you need another right back or can Phil Jones fill in when Rafa is crocked?
