Please don’t think us harsh. No one likes to see a player crocked, especially one that gets bums on seats and is worth the entrance money alone.
But Arsenal themselves have serious injury problems at the moment and it will come as a relief to some to see Marco Reus pulling up with a knock during Germany’s game with Ireland on Tuesday evening – a match in which The Republic stunned the Germans with a late John O Shea equaliser to share points.
Reus has of course had rotten luck with injury and had to miss The World Cup after a problem with his ankle on the eve of the tournament in Brazil.
The brilliant attacking midfielder has only just returned to action, playing two games for Dortmund and scoring a goal of course.
But he’s one of the most dangerous players in Europe, let alone Dortmund, and Arsenal will have a much better chance of taking points without him running at them and hitting shots equally well off both feet.
Arsenal fans, honourable as they are, will wish the lad all the best and hope for a quick recovery. Just not quick enough to allow him to play next week.
