We spend so much time moaning about the foibles of our teams that it’s sometimes good to be reminded that we can take for granted our ability to even attend and enjoy games each week.
Newcastle’s on loan star Jonas Gutierrez revealed to the world that he had testicular cancer last month. But he’s most certainly been keeping himself busy.
Somehow, as well as undergoing the horrific chemotherapy that is required to combat such an illness, Gutierrez has been keeping himself in shape in order to run a marathon in Argentina.
The man capped 21 times by Argentina completed the 26.2 mile marathon on Sunday and posted this image to his Twitter account along with the message.
‘Thank you very much to all the participants of the Buenos Aires Marathon 42k for the support and encouragement during the race,’
Although shocking to see the once long-haired Newcastle star shaven headed he is clearly thrilled to have completed the run and some might say that, with that Toon spirit coursing through his veins, he will hopefully be fine.
It’s a remarkable achievement from a remarkable man. We wish him the very best for his recovery.
