Barcelona signings: Time to get very excited

Wow

There was a feeling that Barcelona would be playing catch up by this stage of the season. Because, while Real Madrid spent £100m on Kroos and Rodriguez – players who were in perfect physical condition – Barcelona’s major signing would be unable to represent his team until the end of October.

As it has turned out Barcelona have had an almost immaculate start in La Liga, using their young stars to great effect.

The other excellent news, and a reason for genuine excitement, is that Luis Suarez is already on top form. This ban may turn out to be a blessing. Because after an operation and a World Cup to endure this summer, the ban has meant that Suarez has had the perfect ‘pre-season’ – a period of rest and training that he wouldn’t have enjoyed if he’d started his season in August.

And his recent performances in the national side have given the fans even more belief that Suarez can step into the side immediately rather than being assimilated over time.

What we really want, of course, is to see him start El Classico. We don’t want him to have to start on the bench as he recovers full fitness. And his two goals against Oman in a friendly this week show that he is ready for action.

After such a long wait Barcelona fans now have reason to get excited. Because El Classico is only 11 days away and Luis Suarez has every reason to believe that he can make his full debut, from the start, against Real Madrid.

Let’s see his performance and goals against Oman. Barcelona fans: would you start Luis against Real?
