Arsenal: 2 Phenomenons Linked to January Transfers

Danny Welbeck played brilliantly for Arsenal on Wednesday evening and showed a great instinct in front of goal against Galatasaray. But even if this sort of scoring form continues we don’t think that he is the complete solution.

In the biggest games you need a player who can make the difference and we aren’t convinced that Welbeck (or Olivier Giroud for that matter) is that man. Arsenal still need a more frightening roster of strikers to really compete at the business end of the season.

Reports on Thursday once more link Arsenal with a player who could definitely take the club to the next level and one who would always be welcomed with open arms. The Guardian states:

(Thierry) Henry however, may be set for his 45th spell with the Gunners following the news that he is to leave the New York Red Bulls in December but has absolutely no intention of hanging up his boots. Arsène Wenger however, is thinking bigger. Ever the altruist, the Frenchman plans to ignore the threadbare nature of his defence as well as his injury-depleted midfield ranks and rescue Edinson Cavani from his Parisian hell. Cavani is so sad in the French capital, that according to L’Equipe, his eyes no longer sparkle but £55m of Wenger’s finest will no doubt put that right in January.

Henry surely wouldn’t be prolific in front of goal at this stage of his career. But he would add depth in the short term. And the feel good factor that he always brings home with him is enough alone to warrant his loan signing. Add to that the fact that the idea of his playing for another club in England is too much too bare and we think that it’s a no-brainer to bring him back for a few months at least.

As for Cavani, it’s surely just a matter of time before he leaves PSG. Even though Zlatan is now 32 he’s still the star of the show in Paris and Cavani’s time there has not been an unqualified success – despite him scoring 25 in 43 for the club last season.

Players this good don’t become available often and, if he is available, Arsenal need to show their ambition.

Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: would you sign either, both or neither?
