Did you hear the one about The Arsenal and The Khedira? I’m sure you did – at least a hundred times over the summer.
And now, just when that frustration induced nausea has calmed down in the belly, he’s reportedly back on the radar.
Arsenal so blatantly need a player like him. A blur of energy, strength and grit. But if Arsene Wenger’s last 8 years of his 18 year tenure are anything to go by, long suffering Gunners fans may have to wait until the next guy comes in before they get a proper holding midfielder.
Because Wenger, either through a football philosophy that few of us understand or sheer bloody mindedness, doesn’t think that his side needs one.
Either that, or all of the 276 available midfield generals that could have done the job in the last decade, have been out of Arsenal’s financial reach.
These days when we think about dear old Arsene, Bill Shankly’s famous saying comes to mind.
“Football is a simple game, complicated by idiots,”
Arsene is no idiot of course. But, come on lad, anyone could tell you that you need someone in front of the defence to break up play and start attacks. Remember Patrick Vieira? You know, that big guy who was your most important player when you were last winning proper silverware on a reg?
Anyways The Guardian drags it all up again on Wednesday:
Sami Khedira is out of contract come season’s end and is being courted by Arsenal and Liverpool, as is another Real midfielder, Isco.
On recent form Arsenal are much more likely to sign Isco because they don’t need him. Arsene’s good at bringing those sorts in isn’t he? While you are at it Arsene, surely there is still a chance to tempt crowd favourite Niklas Bendtner back into the fold? Then you would really have a team on your hands…
Arsenal fans: are you sick of this huge oversight in the boss’s transfer policy?
