Manchester City’s best XI vs Roma

Power

While Manchester City may well opt to deploy only one striker away from home in the big European games this season we feel that it should be more a case of shock and awe style tactics during the home games.

Manchester City can be frightening going forward and having lost their first game to Bayern Munchen they will be desperate for three points on Tuesday night. We would stop short of suggesting that this is a must win game. They can still recover even if they don’t take all the points against the joint leaders of Serie A having won all five of their league games so far.

While City have seldom been comfortable in Europe so far they will hope to get qualification in the bag before it goes down to the last game – and that means winning the home matches.

Samir Nasri is a big miss but City’s squad generally looks in good shape and they may be able to welcome back Stevan Jovetic and Fernando to further bolster their bench.

But those two probably won’t start and the team will have a similar look to that which ultimately trounced Hull at the weekend – fitness permitting. The biggest selection issues are possibly at the back where Manuel Pellegrini must decide whether to persist with Eliaquim Mangala after a dodgy performance and shocking own goal at the weekend. Meanwhile Sagna and Zabaleta will continue to battle it out for the right back berth with Joe Hart reinstated in goal.

Apart from that, we would like to see the excellent Jesus Navas return to the starting line up in place of James Milner.

Here’s our strongest City XI, fitness permitting. Manchester City fans: thoughts please
