There may of course be no substance at all to the latest rumours. They may even have been generated simply to appease dismayed Arsenal fans in the short-term, after another defeat which looked identical to so many big boy batterings over the last few years.
But the rumours at least include exactly the sort of player that Arsenal needs.
The Guardian suggests:
we can tell you that Arsenal are apparently set to make a move for Edinson Cavani in January, the centre-forward seemingly unhappy about playing as the wide man in a 4-3-3 and being subservient to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The same source reports that Arsenal are also keen on Pedro of Barca and Isco of Real. Although these two are patently NOT the sort of players that Arsenal require right now, we wouldn’t be altogether surprised if Arsene Wenger – the biggest fan of lightweight creative midfielders that has ever walked the earth – did go in for one or both of them.
But Cavani IS a player that Arsenal could use – a deadly striker from football’s elite who can dictate to and make a difference in the tightest of games.
There have been persistent rumours about his departure from PSG and we believe that he is available at the right price. The question, as ever, is whether Wenger and Arsenal are prepared to pay the going rate for a crucial addition.
With Cavani plus a top anchor man and a new world class centre back Wenger could simply whack his slippers on, sit back and enjoy victory upon victory.
Let’s see Cavani in action. Arsenal fans: gettable?
