Newcastle: Clearly the best man to take over from Pardew

Pardew has to go

As neutral onlookers we think that Newcastle could have a far worse boss than Alan Pardew.

But when things go this badly for this long something has to give. It does feel now that things aren’t going to improve until a new coach comes in to lift the gloom.

Whatever Pardew tries now you just feel that – despite the latest vote of confidence – it’s gone beyond the point of no return.

In truth, we felt that from the moment he was given an 8 year contract he was doomed. It was an unprecedented knee-jerk reaction to a decent six month stint in charge but anyone who knows football knows that a reputation can be destroyed in the space of a couple of weeks. Look at Manchester United. One good result and everyone seems to be talking them up again.

Three or four good results and the same would happen at Newcastle. But, we just can’t see the upward curve beginning on Pardew’s watch.

But giving him such a long contract put an unnecessary spotlight on his achievements, or lack of.

So who to bring in? Steve Bruce of course. He’s would be great choice. Why?

Well, firstly, his superb man-management skills are desperately needed to stop the rot, get his squad unified again and begin to build the confidence of a squad which doesn’t lack for quality. There are certainly far worse squads in The Premier League. Bruce could galvanise the club but he would want reassurances from Mike Ashley that he would have the autonomy to get on with the job in hand without constant takeover talk, or other controversy.

Roots – Bruce was born 16 miles west of Newcastle, in Corbridge. He knows the area and is a native. If he can’t restore the pride in the shirt then few could.

Football matters – It’s not just Bruce’s personality and heritage that make him the stand out candidate. perhaps, most importantly, he’s a proper football man. He’s a clever coach who knows how to get the best out of what is in front of him. He’s done it everywhere he has been and the Newcastle job would be difficult for him to turn down. Never before has he managed such a big club. Of course he looks more than happy at Hull but he would surely be tempted if Newcastle came calling.

Newcastle fans: Is it time for Pards to go and is Bruce the man for the job?
