Number 5?

Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday evening that they have agreed a deal for Argentine international Marcus Rojo subject to personal terms and a medical.

With Manchester United looking particularly frail at the back last weekend reinforcements were crucial in defence and Manchester United will be very pleased with their business. Rojo may not be the most graceful defender in the world – Argentinians rarely are – but what the player does offer is physicality, tenacity, power and pace in bucket loads. He’s also left footed which means he can play on the left side of the central 3 in defence. At 24 he’s got years left in the tank.

But the latest news reports suggest that he may be joined by a countryman before too long. Because The Express reports this evening that Manchester United are closing in on a massive deal for Real Madrid forward Angel di Maria:

£50million Angel Di Maria set to join Man Utd as Real Madrid sanction move

REAL MADRID have told Angel Di Maria that he can join Manchester United in a £50million deal.

Manchester United looked desperately short of pace of at the weekend and Di Maria would certainly offer that and much more. Twinned with the arrival of Rojo this summer Manchester United could look much more dynamic and competitive by September.

The question now is whether Manchester United will push the boat and and pay the cash instead of haggling over a few million. Because, at this point, they can;t afford to lose put on another major deal this summer.

Let’s see some Di Maria. Manchester United fans: worth the cash?
