We are expecting Arsenal to have one more big splurge before the end of the transfer window.
But they will also need to add a central defender of experience to complement the coltish Calum Chambers and we think that Wenger is loathe to spend big money on such a position.
Step forward Kostas Manolas. Reports today suggest that he is having a medical at Arsenal, to seal a deal to The Emirates.
Kostas Manolas having medical ahead of completing £6million Arsenal transfer
With Thomas Vermaelen gone Arsenal needed to bring in a player who knows the ropes of the European game and Manolas looks to be a decent bet.
He’s only 23 but he already has lots of experience with Greek Champions Olympiakos and on the biggest stage of all at Brazil 2014. But he didn’t just make up the numbers at The World Cup. He was named as one of the 50 best players of the tournament in a side that didn’t exactly light up the competition.
So, if it does happen – which seems highly likely – it will represent a bargain at around £6m and probably see the end of the defensive acquisitions for this summer.
Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: good enough cover for the top two?
