Liverpool have been one of the busiest clubs in Europe in the transfer market this summer but it looks as if their business is not yet complete for this window.
There have been persistent rumours that Liverpool will try for another striker this summer and reports today suggest that they are in negotiations for a goalkeeper, having lost Pepe Reina earlier in the week.
The Metro says:
Liverpool open transfer talks with Sampdoria over World Cup star Sergio Romero
Reports from respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, say Liverpool approached Sampdoria last night over a deal.
Romero had been told he can leave the club despite his impressive showing at the World Cup, where he helped Argentina reach the final.
and The Daily Mail reports:
Liverpool keen on tying up loan deal for Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero
At 27 years of age this guy looks like a really good signing. Because he not only has years ahead of him to improve but already has loads of experience having played in various countries through his career.
The Argentinian started out in his homeland at Racing Club before moving to Holland in 2007 with AZ Alkmaar. His career really blossomed from that point and after four solid years in the Dutch league he moved to Sampdoria in 2011. He wasn’t always first choice at Sampdoria and went out on loan to Monaco in 2013.
But that hasn’t hindered his international career and he has become a stalwart in the national team having gained 54 caps since his debut for Argentina in 2009.
He had a great World Cup and was man of the match against Holland in the semi-finals, saving penalties from Ron Vlaar and Wes Sneijder in the shootout victory.
Some would suggest that, with Mignolet having the odd wobble, that Romero will seriously challenge for the number one spot at Liverpool this season.
Let’s take a look at his highlights. Liverpool fans: can Romero take the number top spot this season?
