Arsenal: Wait nearly over for that midfield general? Report
It’s a long running conundrum surrounding Arsenal and, specifically, their manager Arsene Wenger.
You will never hear us besmirching the name of this clearly honourable man and great coach. But one thing that we will never understand is why he hasn’t yet bought a midfield general – a player to give Arsenal a bit more steel and finally replace Patrick Vieira.
It’s the main weakness in the philosophy of the man and as soon as he gets it sorted the club can start to talk about winning the title again.
With the Carvalho and Khedira deals seemingly going nowhere fast, another name has been thrown into the mix today.
The Daily Star reckons that The Gunners may move for a long term target.
ARSENE WENGER is considering signing Stephan Mbia on a free to boost his Arsenal midfield.
Perhaps Wenger doesn’t rate defensive midfielders highly enough to spend proper money on them. But even this free transfer would be a move in the right direction. The 28 year old is hugely experienced, with 49 caps for Cameroon and clubs like Marseille and Sevilla on the CV.
He should be in the prime of his career right now but looks to have gone down a bit of a cul-de-sac. Nevertheless, he could be part of the solution and we would rather have him in the squad than not.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Arsenal fans: worth a punt or should Arsene be spending proper money on a defensive midfielder.
