Mexican striker Javier Hernandez could be set to leave Manchester United. Massimiliano Allegri , the new Juventus manager, is keen to bolster his attacking line-up and has reportedly made the 26-year-old his prime target. The Daily Star reports that the Italian outfit has already made a tentative offer to the Manchester side.
Juventus bid for Man Utd star Hernandez
The move comes after Alvaro Morata suffered a knee injury that is likely to keep him out of action until late September. This has prompted the Juventus boss to look for a new forward to keep his options open and increase squad depth.
The transfer is likely to be an initial season-long loan with the option for Juventus to buy the player for £4.75 million according to the same source.
The Mexican star joined Manchester United from Guadalajara in 2010 and has since gone on to make 152 appearances in all competitions, scoring 59 goals. His playing time has been severely limited though, with most of his appearances coming from the substitute’s bench.
Combined with the fact that his future looks uncertain under Louis van Gaal, who has several strikers at his disposal, it could be likely that Hernandez could leave Old Trafford this summer.
Hernandez is not the only target that Juventus have in mind though. Should a deal for the Manchester United striker fall through the Italian side is also looking at the possibility of signing other potential targets.
These include Ezequiel Lavezzi in a deal approaching £18 million. However, PSG are believed to want £20 million if they are to part with the forward.
Another potential signing is Manchester City’s Steven Jovetic. The 24-year-old has had limited playing opportunities at The Etihad and The Citizens might be prepared to let him go as they look to conform with Financial Fair Play rules.
In either case, Juventus would likely have to pay around £20 million, making Hernandez the much more attractive option for the Italian side. Nathan Gibson
