Newcastle are showing no sign of stopping their summer transfer business. The North East giants have already brought in numerous reinforcements as they approach the upcoming season, giving fans hope that they will be far more competitive than last year.
Manager Alan Pardew has also confirmed that he is still looking to bring in more players to further boost his squad. It should come as no surprise then that they are once again being linked with new targets.
According to The Daily Mail, the club is considering a move for 20-year-old defender Jamaal Lascelles.
The report indicates that Newcastle have already made a £3 million bid to secure his services. Though they will have to battle to land the youngster, with both Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham also showing interest.
Newcastle make £3m bid for Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles
Following the departure of Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, The Magpies are somewhat light in the defensive department. Lascelles would be an ideal signing, as he would provide short-term cover across the back four.
However, he would also be a long-term prospect. He is a player who is likely to improve dramatically over the coming years and could further develop his skills at Newcastle. It would be a win-win situation for Pardew as he looks to build a younger squad.
Lascelles is one of the most promising players in the country. He is highly rated by a number of clubs and has previously been subject to interest from the likes of Arsenal.
He has spent his entire career at Nottingham Forest, coming up through the youth ranks and breaking into the first-team in 2012. The 20-year-old has also spent a short period on loan at Stevenage to gain further experience playing regular football.
The highly-rated man has also impressed at youth level for England, putting in a number of fine performances at Under 19 and Under 20 level.
